Parent/Mother

by Sharman Harless
(San Marcos CA)

My 16 year old daughter and I were at the eye doctor office. The receptionist was dealing with a very rude patient over the telephone. Once the telephone call ended the receptionist profusely apologized to us for having to overhear. Suddenly, the receptionist burst into tears. My first inclination was to leave her alone to process her frustration and to not embarrass her because of her emotional outburst. My daughter jumped up from her chair and asked the receptionist if she needed a hug? The receptionist gladly accepted the hug and appeared to feel comforted by the gesture. I was very proud of my daughter!
