Everyone has their Story

At 18 months my son had letter recognition, he was reading at 3yrs and understood the concept of negitive numbers by 5yrs. It was easy to see the giftedness, but he also lacked common sense, was very clumsy, and had these hand movements while he would talk to himself. On top of that he was ADHD. So here I am today with my 13 yr old son, AS, AG and ADHD (takes meds for this) going through puberty. Over the years I have had the calls from school crying when others made fun of him, his losing of many items, his tantrums, depressions and insecurities. But some of my greatest joys has been with his sister who is 5 yrs younger. He has taught her math, plays Barbie's with her and can be the sweetest kid with her. And even though he just doesn't "get it" when it comes to socially acceptable behavior, he is kind to animals and has empathy for others (except his brother who is 18months younger and his greatest compitition to be "normal"). I did finally have him "labeled" so I could get the EIP with the school when he was in the 5th grade (he skipped kindergarden), but to parents everywhere going through the maze of AS/AG, they are the most unique people you will every meet, and I have always been proud to call him my son.
