Asperger Epilepsy

Epilepsy is caused by abnormal activity in the brain and more than 50 million people in the world suffer from this condition. Asperger Syndrome is believed to be caused by disrupted nerve networks as is epilepsy. Most epileptic symptoms, including recurring seizures, have been traced to abnormalities of the brain structure or chemistry that alter the electrical activity in nerve cells.

Epilepsy, same as autistic disorders, is there in many forms and severity. Some forms are known to appear only during childhood and some forms effect only old people. Most of the time the cause is unknown but sometimes epilepsy follows head trauma, stroke, a blow to the head, accidents, a fall or a brain tumor.

The way epilepsy shows its symptoms is different in every individual. Some people never experience severe seizures. They can have short periods of blackout or confused memory, fainting spells, episodes of blank staring or brief periods of no response to questions or instructions. Their behavior can be dazed and can cause and temporary inability to talk or communicate for a short period of time. These types of seizures are known as absence seizures and may go unnoticed for a long time.

More commonly known to people are the more severe seizures where people fall to the ground and start to shake with their arms, legs or both. Their muscle’s lose strength and are suddenly unable to keep the body up. These seizures are also known as drop seizures. The person who has such a seizure like these remains conscious but in some cases can lose consciousness and control over more muscles such as their bladder. This condition can be treated with medication or even herbal remedies but in severe cases surgery can be the only option.
